Take a WALK on the WILDflower side with us!

The Jean Dorney Memorial Wildflower Walks begin Saturday, Oct. 9, at Morningside Nature Center. The walks will take place every Saturday in October and start at 9:00 am.

The walks are guided by a Morningside Nature Center staff member. During the walk, participants will enjoy the spectacular fall wildflower bloom at the park. Each week, the walks will be different in focus, participants are asked to please call the office if they would like to find out the theme for the dates they wish to attend.

Big Shoals State Park is hosting the Second Annual Pumpkin Fest

WHITE SPRINGS – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Big Shoals State Park is hosting the Second Annual Pumpkin Fest on Saturday, October 23, 2010.

Flagler College Film Festival to begin screening on Sept. 30

Flagler College will unspool its first edition of the Flagler College Film Festival (FCFF) Sept. 30 to Oct. 3, with 22 films from around the world and right next door.

Partially funded by the Arnold and Barbara Grevior Fund for Film Studies, FCFF will present films in five venues on campus and downtown St. Augustine.

The films will represent 11 countries.  Screenings will take place in the Flagler College Auditorium, Gamache-Koger Theater in the Student Center, The Crisp-Ellert Art Museum, outdoors on the college's West Lawn and at the St Augustine Art Association Gallery, 22 Marine St.

Tickets are $3 with a current Flagler College ID, $7 for seniors and other faculty and $9 general admission. Admission to the children's film is $1 per child and $3 for accompanying adults. For the environmental film, "Turtle: The Incredible Journey," tickets are just $3 for children. The Festival accepts all major credit cards as well as checks and cash.

New TV Season Brings New Hits and Duds

Highlights:

DOA. Every season brings a couple of clunkers. Last week brought four: Fox's Lone Star (4.1 million viewers) was the weakest of the bunch — and became the season's first casualty Tuesday, to be replaced by Lie to Me starting next week. But ABC's The Whole Truth and My Generation and NBC's Outlaw, in Friday's time-slot debut, are all on life support.

Inspirational Purple Heart Monument Dedication Scheduled at Heroes Park

In recognition of our military men and women who've been wounded in armed combat, the City of Palm Coast has partnered with the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter #808 to dedicate an inspirational monument in Heroes Park.

8th Annual Buddy Walk Benefitting The Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville

The Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville is excited to announce the 8th Annual Buddy Walk will take place this Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Jacksonville Beach Pavilion.  The 1-mile walk is the largest fundraiser of the year for the DSAJ and the local chapter’s goal is to raise $150,000.  Brand new this year is the 5K run, which will immediately precede the walk @ 8am.

Alhambra Actors to Join Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra for "The Pirates of Penzance"

Actors from the nation’s longest running professional dinner theatre will take the stage with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra for a special production of The Pirates of Penzance, set to invade Jacoby Symphony Hall at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts on October 1-3. Conducted by Michael Butterman, a stellar cast from the new Alhambra Theatre & Dining under the direction of Tod Booth will sing and dance to live music by the Jacksonville Symphony in one of Gilbert & Sullivan’s wittiest comic operettas.  Performances are Friday and Saturday, October 1 and 2 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, October 3 at 3 p.m. Information and tickets are available through the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra Box Office at (904) 354-5547 or online at www.jaxsymphony.org.
