Green Cove Springs baby dies after Wednesday fall when TV lands on her | News
GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- A 6-month-old Green Cove Springs baby has died after falling from a bed in a camper Wednesday morning, then having a television land on top of her, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
Brylee Houghton and her family had been living in the camper in a pickup truck bed in the 1300 block of Lost Acres Road, according to the Sheriff's Office. The family of four had been living in it for the past week on property owned by relatives, the Sheriff's Office said.
Preliminary information shows Brylee fell about 4 feet to the floor of the camper about 10 a.m., then a television on a makeshift shelf nearby fell on her, spokeswoman Mary Justino said.
"There are a handful of ways it could have happened and we were working on that," Justino said. "... It is a death investigation conducted by the Sheriff's Office homicide unit."
The baby's father grabbed Brylee and ran to a family member's home at the front of the property, Justion said. The mother was not there at the time. The baby was taken to Fire Station 20 for treatment, then airlifted to UF Health Jacksonville where she died about 3 p.m.
The Florida Department of Children and Families has been contacted and is doing its own investigation. Justino said that no more details are available as they await the results of an autopsy.
