The price of crude oil advanced again last week after the U.S. Labor Department reported payroll gains were greater than projected. As unrest in the Mideast and Libya continued to escalate last week, so did the price of crude oil. For the first time since September of 2008, the price of oil closed above $100 a barrel.

Red Light Cameras Take Effect in Green Cove Springs Today

Red Light Cameras Take Effect in Green Cove Springs Today

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Police in Green Cove Springs began citing red-light runners today using cameras to catch violators.

Once caught on camera, offenders receive a ticket in the mail that will cost $158. The driver doesn't get points or higher insurance rates, but if the fine isn't paid within 30 days, it increases to $256.

"This is about public safety," said Police Chief Bobby Musco last month. "If you go to a t-bone crash at an intersection, somebody is going to be hurt. This is about public safety. "

Musco believes the cameras will also make his department more efficient and effective.

There should be two photos of the incident sent in the mail with any violation, and more photos will be online. You can still challenge the ticket in court.
