Putnam County Desperate For Volunteer Firefighters

PALATKA, Fla. -- With the wildfires burning across the First Coast, county fire services need more volunteers to help out on the ground and act as support.

Shannon Tilton is a volunteer firefigher in Putnam County. She's been active since 1997 and says volunteering can lead to a new career, or just be a great way to help out the community.

"Putnam County paid for my fire school and they also paid for my EMT training, I'm now EMT certified."

She says typically the volunteer staff are the first to get picked when there are openings within the full-time fire department.

Right now, she says they are worn so thin because of all the wildfires as well as the standard house calls and medical emergencies.

Two Men Hailed as Heroes after Baby-On-Board Carjacking

Two Men Hailed as Heroes after Baby-On-Board Carjacking

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- It was a terrifying five minutes for one First Coast family after being carjacked in a Krystal drive-thru.

"I thought 'he's going to kill me. This is really happening. He's going to kill me,'" said Kelli Broadfoot.

Just after placing her order at the drive-thru, police said James Johnson forced his way into Kelli Broadfoot's truck- and she didn't waste any time fighting back.

"I'm hitting him and kicking him, and he's hitting and kicking and pushing," she said.

Johnson said Broadfoot hit her in the face several times, before forcing her out of the car, and speeding off with 13-month-old Lindsey still in the truck.

"When she hit the ground, she bounced right back up (and screamed) 'My baby!' It was not good," said witness Ben Kelly.

He was in the drive-thru line right behind Broadfoot and witnessed the whole thing.

Hands-Only CPR Takes 60 Seconds to Learn and Could SAVE the Life of Someone You LOVE

Did you know, CPR Week runs from June 1 to June 7? In celebration of National CPR Week we want you to know that anyone can learn CPR – and everyone should! Sadly, 70 percent of Americans may feel helpless to act during a cardiac emergency because they either do not know how to administer CPR or their training has significantly lapsed. This alarming statistic could hit close to home, because home is exactly where 80 percent of cardiac arrests occur. Put very simply: The life you save with CPR is mostly likely to be someone you love.

This June, in honor of National CPR Week, the American Heart Association is calling on all Americans to learn how to give Hands-Only CPR by watching a simple one-minute video at
